01 / The Framework
The 3 Dimensions.
Every VA disability case is governed by three interacting perspectives. Medical Evidence answers WHAT: understand your position. Legal Framework answers WHY: understand the terrain. Strategic Execution answers HOW: chart your course. They are interconnected perspectives, not rigid or exclusive subject categories. Understanding all three is the difference between filing paperwork and developing a case.
02 / Medical Evidence
What do the medical facts show?
Every VA disability decision is an application of rules to facts. The facts are medical: diagnosis, severity, functional impact, treatment, and the documentation that shows them.
The law cannot apply to evidence that does not exist. That single sentence explains why the Medical Evidence dimension comes first.
- Diagnosis
- The condition, properly identified.
- Severity
- How much the condition affects function.
- Functional impact
- What the veteran can and cannot do.
- Treatment
- Care sought, received, and followed.
- Documentation
- The record that shows the facts.
- Longitudinal evidence
- The condition's history over time.
03 / Legal Framework
What rules govern those facts?
Facts do not decide claims by themselves. VA applies written rules to the facts: statutes, regulations, rating criteria, administrative rules, and precedential case law.
The Legal Framework dimension is why two veterans with similar conditions can have different outcomes: the rules, applied to the facts, produce the decision.
- Statutes
- The laws Congress enacted.
- Regulations
- VA's published rules, including the rating schedule.
- Rating criteria
- What each level of severity looks like.
- Administrative rules
- Procedures, deadlines, and review lanes.
- Precedential case law
- How courts have interpreted the rules.
- Proposed vs current
- A proposal is not law until it takes effect.
04 / Strategic Execution
How should the veteran think about development and positioning?
The Strategic dimension is how the veteran thinks about the case: what to develop, how to position it, when to act, and what questions deserve deeper attention.
Strategic Execution is not manipulation. It is the ordinary discipline of building a case on the evidence and the rules that actually apply.
- Development
- Building the evidence the case needs.
- Positioning
- Presenting the case clearly.
- Timing
- When to act, and what deadlines require.
- Evidence gaps
- What the record does not yet show.
- Reassessment
- Revisiting the case as it develops.
- Escalation
- Choosing a review lane deliberately.
05 / How They Interact
Medical Evidence, Legal Framework, Strategic Execution.
The three dimensions are not separate tracks. They interact in every case.
- A
A diagnosis is a medical fact. Whether that diagnosis meets a rating criterion is a legal question. Whether the record contains the documentation that supports it is a strategic question.
- B
A strong legal argument cannot fix a record without evidence. A well-documented record cannot fix a claim that fails the legal elements. Strategic Execution connects the two.
- C
A claim is only as strong as its weakest dimension. That is why The Veteran's Bearing teaches all three, and why the public site explains the framework without publishing the complete process for applying it.
Doctrine
Build the case. Then file the claim.
Filing paperwork is not the same as developing a case. Strong claims require more than forms. The law can only apply to the evidence that exists in the record.
06 / The Boundary
What we teach, and what we reserve.
The public site explains the framework: the problems, the concepts, the important questions, and the common misunderstandings. It is designed so a visitor understands why the dimensions matter.
Public education covers
- • The three dimensions and why they interact
- • What each VA topic is and why it matters
- • The questions worth asking
- • Common misunderstandings
- • The relevant authorities
Deeper products and coaching develop
- • Complete analytical frameworks
- • Sequencing and prioritization methods
- • Evidence-development workflows
- • Complete evidence-gap analysis
- • Individualized strategy and positioning
The website shows that there is a map. It does not give away the entire map.
07 / Worksheet
The 3 Dimensions Orientation Worksheet.
A free worksheet for organizing what you know across the three dimensions: the medical facts, the rules that may apply, and the strategic questions that follow. It creates orientation without conducting analysis.

Next step
The framework is the starting point, not the whole system.
Deeper frameworks, structured tools, and guided application are developed in paid educational products and coaching. Start with the education, then decide how deep you want to go.
